What the colours mean

What the map shows

Every pub and bar the Food Standards Agency’s register lists, as captured on 19 October 2026. Clubs, halls, hotels and venues are left off, as they are from the rest of the site. England, Wales and Northern Ireland score hygiene from 0 to 5; Scotland’s scheme gives a pass or asks for improvement, so Scottish pubs have their own colours.

Most dots sit where the register places the business. 3,210 sit at the middle of their postcode instead, because the register’s own position was missing or more than 5km out, so in the countryside a dot can be a few hundred metres off. 261 pubs and bars have no usable location and aren’t shown.

A dot means the council has the business on its books, so check it’s open before you go. The register records hygiene inspections only: beer, food and atmosphere are left to you. How this directory works explains where the data comes from and how ratings are given.
